a housecoat
she’s wearing a housecoat to tea
to lunch
to dinner
a green shuttered housecoat

colonial blue finish
with paint chipped edges, seams
she’s wearing a house coat as we meet
and I can’t help wonder what, why
[she’s hiding]

her coat has vaulted ceilings and
Corinthian columns on the long dolled sleeves
her bell cuffs are trimmed in black lace
I wonder what, who
[she’s mourning]

we carry on our metaphor
two stranger met for coffee in a cheap cafe
we’re playing seamstress
she’s leaving her coat on to torment me
